More than just the salt was shaking in Ybor City on Saturday, June 17th when the CuervoGames rolled into town.
The event, sponsored by one biggest names in booze Jose Cuervo and the country’s leading men’s lifestyle brand Maxim Magazine, featured a gauntlet obstacle course competition, bucking mechanical lime, Maxim Hometown Hotties Competition, live B.o.B. performance, and of course Cuervo Girls galore.
Over 60 teams came to compete in the “WipeOut Meets American Gladiator” challenge, which included a 20-foot rock climbing wall and Barrel Roll Mayan Pyramid, in effort to win a trip to the National Final in Las Vegas. But it was the Stage 5 Clingers who took home the title with a time of 2:04 – a new record for the event which has already held competitions in Scottsdale and Dallas.
The ladies of Tampa Bay came out for a different kind of competition and fiercely strut their stuff in a runway-style pageant for a chance to win the Maxim Hometown Hotties Tampa Title and a trip to the next round of the national search. Celeb Judges Teddy Purcel of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Alex Smith – Tight End for Cleveland Browns (and former Buc player), Cody Grimm – Tampa Bay Bucs Safety and Meredith Walusek – host of MJ in the morning on 93.3 crowned Tampa resident Brittany Lee the winner of the night.
The Games ended with a high-energy set by B.o.B that included performances of “Nothin’ on You,” “Airplanes” and other hits from the number-one debuted album “The Adventures of Bobby Ray.” B.o.B impressed with slick lyrical delivery and a jamming electric guitar session. Yes, he can rap and rock.
When we caught up with B.o.B. before his performance, in honor of the CuervoGames we asked him to finish the sentence, “A night that starts with Cuervo….” B.o.B. and his crew tossed around a few ideas, thinking about both the highs (ends at someone’s hotel room) and lows (ends at the toilet), but decided on honoring Tequila’s wild, never-ending nights. “A night that starts with Cuervo.. Never ends.”

Thanks to Cuervo and Maxim for bringing the event to Tampa – the number two market for Jose Cuervo in the Country. (And now everyone knows why.)
